Second Chances SA

Spread Christmas Hope: Support Mentoring Camps for Children of Incarcerated Parents

This Christmas, you can make a lasting impact on children with parents in prison. Second Chances SA is a non-profit supporting these children and their families with programs designed to restore hope and build brighter futures across South Australia.

Many of these children face bullying, isolation, and feelings of hopelessness. Our Mentoring Camps provide a weekend away where kids can feel loved, valued, and supported. With small groups and a 2:1 staff-to-child ratio, the camps offer life skills, positive mentorship, and the chance to connect with others facing similar challenges.

PROJECT TWO

Theraphy For Children with Disabilities

Smaller therapy resources such as toys, puzzles, games, boardgames, etc. These are important because of the work that is being done teaching communication, social skills and play skills, as well as developing some motor skills. Rach and Maria are currently also planning to begin running some group sessions to help parents of the children connect with each other (hoping for a small support community to form here), and to help the children develop social skills as they learn to play with each other. These resources will help with these new groups also. I.E. A parachute for play, and some basic musical instruments, and materials for messy sensory play. 

 

Also, to ensure more families have access to these programs, we will sponsor one day for the program. This act will mean the program moves from 4 days to 5 days. We will help to make a Friday program happen.

Water Network Project

Help Bring Clean Water to Families in Need This Christmas

This holiday season, you have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on families in Southeast Asia who are struggling with access to clean water. Your support will help build two vital water storage tanks that will ensure a steady, reliable water supply to families in remote communities.

The Need for Water Storage

Currently, many families in the region are experiencing water shortages because the existing infrastructure is not sufficient to meet the growing demand. By building two new water storage tanks, we can provide these families with a constant supply of clean, safe water.

The Solution: Two Essential Water Tanks

  1. 8,000-Liter Water Tank for 23 Families (1km from the main water tank)

    • There are 23 families, served by 18 water meters, located about 1km from the main water tank. Unfortunately, when several meters are in use at the same time, the water flow is not enough to meet everyone's needs.

    • We plan to build an 8,000-liter concrete tank, 600 meters from the main tank, to collect water around the clock. This will ensure a steady water supply to these 23 families, no matter how many meters are in use.

  2. 5,000-Liter Water Tank for 23 Families (800m from the main water tank)

    • Another 23 families, served by 16 water meters, live about 800 meters from the main tank. Like the first group, they face water shortages when multiple families use water at the same time.

    • We aim to construct a 5,000-liter concrete tank, 400 meters from the main tank, which will collect water continuously and distribute it to these 23 families.
